"The moon and the words of the Peony Pavilion provided my only comfort in these sad lonely days of autumn. With my father and brother gone on business and abandoned by my maid, my only company at night were the crickets. They sang as usual, not realizing that their lives would soon be over as the cold weather would soon be upon us. Much like I, they failed to see that death was coming."
